Youth Ministry Games

As long as youth ministry has been around, there have been games played during meetings. Often people go back on forth on whether we should do games in student ministry. I have fallen on both sides of the youth ministry games discussion. For right now I am for games in your student ministry. This is because I thought of some good purposes for using games in your setting. I am not going to over spiritualize the use of games, but I would like to share how I feel using games in your ministry can benefit your ministry.

1. Games help your students feel connected to the group. Students crave and need community. games provide a great way for your students to have this need met. This benefits them but it also benefits you. When students fill connected, it closes the backdoor of your ministry. This means students come and they keep coming back.

2. Playing games make for great transition. Most of your kids are coming from school or other activities. Games in your ministry provide an opportunity for them to burn off some energy and start to get used to the idea that they are at something different.

3. Games can teach a point. Like I have said before, I am not always a big fan of using games in ministry. This point makes me love youth ministry games though. Studies show that when students are interacting with a lesson and have something hands on to do, they learn more. Why not use a a great game to illustrate a point.

4. Games are a great way to review your lessons or sermons. Reviewing is a great way to make sure students are learning the material you teach them. So why not create a PowerPoint youth ministry game to review what you taught.

So if you are not a fan of youth ministry games, I understand. But hopefully you now see youth ministry games can have some good qualities.
