ALL OF MY FORMER EMPLOYERS STOP READING HERE! I know all too well the pains of being fired. Not once, not twice....shit, I stopped counting after the fourth time.
1. I was fired from my very first job as a cashier because they thought I was stealing.
2. A few years later, I was fired from another job because I refused to make my boss look good by covering up his incompetence.
3. There was another time where I was brought in for training, only to be told that I was "auditioning" for the job.
4. And most recently, fired after 3 weeks of employment because I seemed "on the edge" (I think I set my personal best with this one).
This is enough to make anyone crazy. But rest assured, with the instability of the economy and employers' fickleness, job security, pensions and a nice retirement package are all things of the past.
Employers are more concerned about tightening their bottom line than about you.
For me, I learned early that the priorities of my employers wasn't me. And quite frankly after being let go, even though I didn't see another paycheck for weeks, I relished in my freedom.
I realized no matter how many degrees I got, how many training sessions I went to, none of that was going to get me the corner office. Now, don't get me wrong. There are hundreds of great companies out there in the world and if you're lucky enough to land yourself with one of those, I commend you.
But if this happened to you, would you be ready?
Being fired from my last job put me "on the edge." It forced me to jump. To take a leap and fall into the abyss of "this is your time."
I truly believe it was God's way of saying, "Veronica, move your ass!"
So after the fourth time, I decided I had had enough. I was tired of dreaming of everything I had the potential to do but never having the platform to do it. Being fired gave me that platform. It always gave me a reason to aspire for more.
So a few days later, I packed my suitcase, withdrew all my life savings - a measly 11.21 and headed to New York to step into my destiny of becoming a Bilingual Voice Over Artist.
Sometimes you have to be fired in order to move forward.
