An affiliate is someone who promotes a product or service on behalf of a merchant and earns a commission for each sale or referral made. Although Affiliate marketing is a billion dollar industry and proves itself to be one of the most popular, easiest and successful ways of making money online, the failure rate is still a staggering 90%. Do you want to join the 90% of affiliates who fail? If you do this article will provide you with the foundation and some guidelines needed to help you on that journey.
Affiliates, if you want to fail, then here are a few steps you can take to fast track your journey.
Get involved in a few get rich quick opportunities. There are so many of these opportunities to choose from. Just do a Google search on "internet opportunities" and you'll see a ton of programs promising overnight success or the formula for instant riches. The high failure rate in the affiliate marketing industry is largely because of this.
Start promoting products that you have no passion about. This is a perfect recipe for failure. When you are not passionate about the product or service you are promoting then you will be less dedicated to the cause and more likely to quit.
Keep jumping from program to program and promote many products at the same time. Having a website promoting ten or fifteen different products can be very confusing to visitors and can be counterproductive since it will be harder for you to focus your energy. This is another perfect recipe for failure.
Treat your business like a hobby. Just have some fun and don't take yourself or your affiliate business too seriously. If you treat what you do like a simple hobby then you won't make the money you should.
Forget about building relationships and just try to make that sale. Building a relationship with visitors to your website will make them feel more comfortable. The more comfortable your visitors are with you the more likely it is that they will buy something from you in the future. You wouldn't want that would you? This would make your affiliate business more successful.
Focus your efforts on selling instead of helping, sharing, teaching and giving. People don't really like to be sold to but would more likely buy from someone who can help them or who can provide them with valuable information. Avoid sharing, teaching and helping others to fast track the failure of your affiliate business.
Don't concern yourself with LIST building. Remember you are not into relationship building. You only need a list if you want to build a relationship with your visitors or if you want to sell to persons over and over again. Without a list you will have fewer people to sell to. If you don't want to increase your sales or grow your affiliate business, avoid building a list.
Don't worry about grammar or the appearance of your website or blog. There is no greater turnoff than to visit a site with poor grammar and spelling errors. It makes you look very unprofessional and will negatively affect your affiliate business. The same concept applies to a ugly looking website.
Don't even bother to build a website or blog to promote your products (You don't really need them).Having a good website or blog will make you look like a professional or expert in your niche.Only if you are really serious about your affiliate business will you need to have a professional and well designed website.
There is absolutely no need to research the products you are promoting or the vendor whose products you are promoting. Just pick a product and get started. If you don't do your proper research you might end up promoting a crappy or questionable product that could negatively affect your reputation and you probably won't make a sale. You also risk negative publicity if you represent a product by a merchant who is not respected or highly regarded. This would negatively affect your affiliate business.
Just focus on one marketing method. To increase your chances of failure in this industry you only need to find one way to market your products and stick to that method. If you diversify your marketing methods then you can reach a wider market and this would increase your chances of affiliate marketing success.
Stop planning and setting goals. You don't need to plan anything. Just do whatever you want whenever you want. Planning and setting goals are for those who want to be successful at what they are doing. Most if not all those who are successful online today had a clear plan and a list of tasks to complete each day. Remember if you FAIL to PLAN you PLAN to FAIL.
Don't pay attention to statistics as they are not that important. Only successful affiliates concern themselves with analyzing stats. If you don't want to be successful then why bother? The majority of affiliates don't even bother to look at their stats much less analyze them, hence part of the reason for the high failure rate.
Stop educating yourself. Once you learn the basics to get you started then that's all you'll need. If you continue to educate yourself you can better adjust to changes and you have to be able to change with the industry to survive. Educating yourself will only put you and your affiliate business in a better position to adjust and grow and you wouldn't want that.
Follow the above steps and you will be well on your way to failure in the affiliate marketing industry. If you want to increase your chances of SUCCESS in the industry please do the opposite.
