In a nutshell, kids room decor is the art of keeping their mess at a minimum. Let's face it, you kids room will never look like an army barrack, and shouldn't, but you can get on top of the mess that is driving you crazy. It's all about creative storage. When the bits and pieces are up and out of your way, cleaning is simple, easy, and quick.

For instance, a large toy chest on wheels is easy to roll out of the way when you clean the floor. When open, it's low enough for toddlers to reach. At clean up time, you can institute a game where they see who can get the most toys into the chest. Make it a race, and offer prizes, like stickers. Toddlers love to put small things into larger things (that's why your VCR is broken ; ), so use this to your advantage. Institute games of laundry basket ball, where throwing laundry into the basket is target practice. As your child grows, mount the basket higher up the wall. This will keep them interested in continuing to hone their skills, and the laundry won't be mistaken for a carpet.

Book shelves should be cleared of books your children no longer enjoy, so there is space to put away their old favorites and current challenges. By using lots of dividers in the shelves, you need not wrestle with long domino like rows of books every time you want to put one away. When it's easier to put them away, it's easier to convince kids to do so.

You can use the plastic containers from various food items to set up storage for game pieces. If your children get into doing puzzles with many pieces, have them always start that on a piece of cardboard. That way, you can move the whole thing when you need to clean up, with out ruining the kids' work and enticing their wrath. When they finish the puzzle, you can glue it to the cardboard and hang it on the wall. They get pride from seeing their own accomplishments, and proof of their own perseverance.
