Are you playing to your full potential? I doubt it and even if you started playing considerably better in the next few weeks and months I bet you would still know that you are capable of even better performances on the golf course.
I have thus far not met a single golfer who thinks they are playing to their full potential. Some say they will not play better because they do not have the time or are not prepared to devote the time necessary to practice and improve, but they are capable of more if they chose to work.
Quite often golfers will also admit that their golf is a real reflection of the way they run their lives at home and work. In other words they know that they could achieve even more in the personal and professional lives. Even very highly successful people in any endeavour believe that they have a lot more inside them. Do you think the best golfers believe they are maxed out? Not for a second!
Do you know why most people will not take on a challenge to improve? Because they lack the confidence in themselves to succeed. The excuse of time is rarely valid because anyone with a strong enough desire to achieve a goal will find the time or make it, it is that simple. Time and talent excuses are born and used in order to justify a persons lack of commitment and unwillingness to try to achieve a goal.
If you want to improve and you believe that deep down inside you are capable of more, but you lack the confidence in yourself then you will not start. You will make excuses to avoid the truth and the danger is when you start to believe your own excuses.
Think of something you would like to achieve but maybe there is a lingering doubt deep down inside whether you can do it. Now what if I could wave a magic wand and guarantee that you could not fail, your success is guaranteed no matter what, would you go for it?
Confidence is probably the one big universal reason why people either achieve a thing or do not. Confidence is the difference between starting and finishing a goal or not even beginning in the first place. Confidence is as we like to say in coaching circles; The difference that makes the difference.
If you are confident you can play a shot you invariably play it well. If you are not confident then you duff it. If you are confident you can become a much better player you will. If you are not then you will not even start an improvement program.
Confidence is the most important single factor in this game. Jack Nicklaus.
I am often told that it is hard to develop confidence but actually I do not believe it is. It is relatively easy to do if you just follow a good confidence building system and keep doing it. Technically it is not difficult and in fact many of the confidence building exercises are very pleasant and enjoyable just to do anyway. Any good sport psychologist or Mental Game of Golf Program will do this for you and supply the necessary techniques to build your golf confidence.
