It happens to all of us at least one time in our lives. You are going strong in your exercise program and an issue in your life gets you off track and it is hard to get going again. Now what do you do? There are four action steps you can take to get back on track. Such as:

  1. Forgive yourself. If you accept the fact that everyone gets off schedule once in a while in their lives, it is easier to forgive yourself and get back on schedule. Do not beat yourself up emotionally about being a failure. Forgive yourself, get back up and start walking (or whatever your choice of exercise might be). Is it really that simple; yes, it is. You can forgive other people when they ask for forgiveness and you can forgive yourself without reservation.
  2. Give yourself a do-over. When getting back on track do something for yourself that will spark energy again. Buying a new workout outfit to make yourself look good; buying a new pair of walking/running shoes or finding an exercise/walking buddy will give you a new "do-over" in attitude that will get you back on track.
  3. Learn from it. As you are getting back on track, you must think about what got you off track and develop a motivational statement; such as:                                                                                                            "I walk because my body will never be healthy if I neglect doing my daily exercise program. When a crisis, or a bad attitude, stops me from exercise I will immediately be mindful that one of the best ways to get through a crisis is to keep the exercise going to relieve my stress. I pledge to always take care of my body and provide the very best I can for the purpose of maintaining my health."
  4. Add on exercise. It is always a great idea to keep upgrading your exercise program by advancing to the next level. To feel in control again, simply tack on a few extra minutes to your regular walk. Throw your body a twist by starting a power walk for 10 minutes; it will feel so good.
So, do not give up.  Adopt the four key action steps to get going again and reap a healthy lifestyle.
