"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved." - Winston Churchill
In the book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", wealth guru Robert Kiyosaki talks about the importance of claiming your destiny instead of waiting for it to happen. One of my favorite stories that he tells in "Rich Dad Poor Dad" was of his "Rich Dad", who was technically the father of his friend Mike. "Rich Dad" was where he learned most or all of his lessons on how to build and maintain wealth.
His "Rich Dad" employed a number of labor workers. Their jobs ranged anywhere from maids to gardeners. He also paid them very meagerly. When asked why he did not give them more, he replied "none of these people have ever asked me how to become rich". He was trying to teach Kiyosaki that in life you don't get what you want or even deserve, but what you demand.
The same goes for your destiny. If you have a vision for your destiny in your mind, rest assured that if you are to attain it, it will not just "come" to you. If you wait for that, your fate will be similar to that of the labor employees in "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". If you truly want a thing, you must get out there and claim it for yourself without apology.
So many times I hear people speak of destiny as if it is something that is owed to them; something that all they must do is show up in order to attain. Well you know what? That is a poverty mentality, and nothing could be farther from the truth.
At the same time, I don't completely blame most people for seeing it that way. Often times in popular culture the marketing messages that are fed to the public are done so for the specific purpose of giving them a false sense of hope. This same false sense of hope works to keep people in "dream mode" without necessarily taking much action to achieve those dreams.
It places you into a stupor that most often will make you feel like you just aren't enough; not successful enough; not rich enough; not talented enough; not beautiful enough; not cool enough, and so on.
Having chronic feelings of inadequacy plays a big role in priming us to spend as much money as we can budget on things to make us feel like we ARE enough. And tied up in all of this is the notion of a pre-determined destiny that you must only "believe in" to make happen.
I do believe that everyone has a pre-determined purpose and destiny that is uniquely their own, however, it is not just waiting for you. You must CLAIM it.
So continue to work hard and diligently toward you goals so that you can ACHIEVE the point where you can proudly say that you have indeed claimed your unique destiny that no one else besides you could ever lay claim to.
