There really is something to positive thinking. It helps a person to focus on a good goal in order to achieve it. If you are a negative thinker then you might have a more difficult time achieving your goals, or you may just say, in a joking way, OK, I'm positive that I'll never be able to give up smoking.

I know how you feel. I was in much the same position myself a few years back. I thought that there was no way that I could ever get the mastery over my nicotine addiction. Sure, I tried all the usual ways, cold turkey, cutting down, going smokeless and they all worked, for about a day. It seemed to me that there wasn't anything that I could do to say I quit smoking today.

Then something changed. I began to take a look at life in a different way. Soon I had retrained my thinking to realize that I did not really need the cigarettes to survive. Instead of my having the mastery over my own destiny, I had created a nicotine monster, one that kept me from doing a lot of things that I loved because it called me out for a smoke on a regular basis.

When you are ready to quit you will know it in your heart. You need to be motivated on a positive emotional note, and make sure that you make your last cigarette the last one that you will ever smoke. That is what I did, over 10 years ago. I thought that I could never give up smoking, until I started to think that I could.
