The Xbox ring of light has been pestering gamers and console owners since the Xbox 360 was released back in 2005. You know what I'm talking about...the three right lights that flash on the front of your console preventing you from enjoying valuable gaming time.
This article is going to talk about some common ways to have the Xbox ring of light fixed and what you shouldn't do to repair this problem (no matter what anyone tells you).
The Wrong Way to Fix Your Xbox 360
Before we start talking about the right way to fix a console, let me tell you about one common "wrong ways" that people have been suggesting for fixing Xbox ring of light.
Once of these wrong ways is called the towel trick. This method basically involves wrapping your console in a towel and letting it run with no ventilation for about 30 minutes. The basis behind this quick fix is that you want to get the insides of the Xbox 360 so hot that any cracked solder joints (that cause the red ring of death) actually melt back together.
Can you believe that? You're literally roasting the inside of your 360. While this MIGHT work for a short fix, it is by no means a permanent repair. Not only that, but you run the huge risk of dealing significant damage to the inside components of your system--damage that can't be repaired without replacement.
The Right Way to Fix Your Xbox 360
So now that you know how not to fix your console, let's discuss some common methods how you can fix your console. The 3 major ways are:
1 - Send it to Microsoft for Repair (costly)
2 - Have a Repair Shop Fix It (not available in all areas)
3 - Fix it Yourself (can be the best option if you're willing to devote an hour or so of your time to working on your console)
