The concept is quite simple really. Content is king, The most attractive and visually stimulating site are very hard to rank well if it has limited or no content. (I am speaking of generic search engine rankings of-course) Articles that are relevant and well written will do more for your site that the fancy flashy graphics, which as statistics have proven are more distracting and irritating to new viewers.

So where does one start? Well, understanding exactly who your target audience is, can set great guidelines for the topics you will focus on. For example: This site is primarily geared to aiding new business owners on the benefits of having a website. One of it's goals is educating people on the aspects of building your web site and the many facets involved.

Sure, I can generate business from one of my sites by building my clients an online presence that helps them generate more business. But it would not be fair to merely slap a few pages together and some examples of my work in hopes that I 'reel' them in. You are in business to make a profit, but you should provide a high quality of service if you are to stay in business.

So your content should cater to what your research has shown to be the primary concern of your visitors. Whether they buy something from you or not, is not the point. Your content should be original, and unique as I've said before. Anyone can steal someone elses content and paste it on their site as their own. Apart from it being illegal, it's also unethical and will only end up harming you in the long run.

Have concise topics that deal with the subject at hand and have titles to match. I believe the best content can be generated from what you already know. It wise to start a business in an area that you have some expertise at, that way any content you write or gather from research can be sifted much more effectively and result in a higher quality article.

If, however you are not comfortable writing them yourself, you should seek the services of a content writer. There are many good content writers out there. These people write articles about anything imaginable. If your site has a niche market then it would be best to find someone who specializes in that specific area.

Getting someone to write about something they are familiar with makes for a more genuine article. I can research fly fishing until it came out of my ears but until I actually do it, there will probably be a disconnect and impersonal approach to my writing.
