World of Warcraft Insights now takes a look at the warlock class. Warlocks are one of the more versatile "caster" classes. High survivability, high sustained dps, massive burst dps are what makes warlocks loved by all. If played right you will never have to drink and rarely bandage. The first key to playing a warlock is understanding what minions are meant to do what.
The imp - Some sustained dps and a stamina boost to the party, this is mostly used in raids just to do some extra damage.
The void walker (aka. Big Blue) - Here is your staple soloing minion. This minion is meant to take a beating while keeping the mob on him and not on you.
The succubus - This minion has some good dps and good crowd control. She is mostly used in some raids or pvp not great for anything but better than others when in a pinch.
The felhound - This little guy eats buffs off of your enemies and debuffs off of you. This minion is mostly used for pvp due to the lack of buffs on npc mobs.
The felguard - This is a beefed up version of the void walker so he is used about the same way though due to warrior like abilities this minion has found it's way into pvp though not much due to the fact that you get him through a talent under demonology which is frowned upon in pvp.
Next key is talent speck
Affliction - One of the best sustained dps in the game as well as good survivability due to the plus in life draining and improved mana gain from life tap. This is considered the best warlock build for farming and pvp due to it multiple dots to allow you to stack and move on for massive damage.
Demonology - Here's your leveling build due to the pluses it gives your minions. Much like the hunter's beast mastery build.
Destruction - Here's your massive burst dps build. Loved by raider's game wide if you are specked right and not topping the dps charts you are doing something wrong. Only down side is a low survivability so hope you have an ungodly tank in your group that knows how much you pull agro and how to keep the mob/boss off of you due to your extremely high spell damage and your massive crits to go with your spell damage.
