For those who haven't yet tried WordPress, they recently rolled out their newest version, WordPress 3. While this version introduces a few new features that are extremely useful, they won't make much sense unless you have a basic understanding of WordPress to begin with. We're going to go through a quick run through of all of the things that you can do with WordPress, and look at some of the new features in version 3.
WordPress is software that you install in your server that basically manages your website for you. Though it was originally created for bloggers, it has evolved to become an extremely powerful tool for anyone who wants to build a web site. The reason that it is so useful and powerful is that it is very easily customizable without knowing anything about web site coding, and the fact that when you make a change some where it's very easy to make that change to every page on the site. This frees up a ton of time for anyone who has to work on the site, but it is not the only reason that WordPress is so popular.
Another major reason that WordPress is so popular is all of the plugins available. Plugins can do everything from prevent people from commenting on your blog to giving you the analytics in your traffic data. Some of them are completely random and just for fun, and some will literally automatically create entire web sites for you.
Themes are also a popular aspect of WordPress three. Basically, you simply install a theme that you like and it'll change the entire web site at once to match the theme. This is much faster than the old way, even if you were using cascading style sheets.
However, those are just the ease of use aspects of WordPress. Just as important are the business aspects of it. For example, you can now add several posts but schedule them over the course of days, weeks, or months. This allows site owners to get ahead with creating content for their website, which helps your website rate quickly, which in turn brings in more visitors and more sales.
With WordPress 3, one of the most powerful new features is the ability to create what's called a multi site. A multi site is simply a network of websites stored on one domain, and these allow you to build massive backlinks to one site even though it is technically more than one website. Though installation of a multi site can get tricky, it is well worth the time invested. So if you haven't given WordPress 3.0 a try yet, go check it out.
