Women Need Female Friends

Your husband harshly criticizes your best friend, and you are left wondering where those derogatory statements came from? In your mind, your best friend is not a threat but a comfort. Husbands might not always understand why a wife needs to have female companions because he thinks that his friendship should be enough. Unsurprisingly, husbands can come to hate your best friend because he finds the relationship threatens his significance. There are several reasons why a woman needs to have female friendships.

Reason Number One: Conversation

Women have a need to talk about their joys, frustrations, and disappointments on a regular basis. They are wired with a great desire to communicate with others. The interesting thing about a woman's conversation with another woman is that it is rarely competitive. Of course there are always exceptions, but typically, women try to relate in a relational manner that is warm and welcoming. Often, this includes conversation that is emotional or highly charged. Husbands don't typically communicate in the same manner because their brains are wired with the goal to fix problems. They tend to react rather than relate. Women need valuable communication that they can usually only get on a regular basis from other females.

Reason Number Two: Connection

Women have an intense desire to connect with others on common issues and common ground. Husbands tend to relate to their wives in terms of goals and accomplishments. That is an important aspect of connection, but it does not fully satisfy a woman's' desire for a connection that relates to being a wife, mother, sister, or daughter. Men could not possibly connect to women on this level because they have never experienced these roles. Husbands don't always relate to the struggle a woman faces relating to a balance between home and work, or a struggle between nurturing and providing. Women need to be able to connect to other women on this level.

Reason Number Three: Hobbies & Interests

Not too many husbands really enjoy shopping, making crafts, cooking, or home decorating. Of course, women are involved in many other arenas of life, but husbands do not always share these particular interests. Women want to relate to other women because they feel a bond when it comes to interests and hobbies. Depending on a woman's age, she may be facing pregnancy, child rearing, an empty nest, medical concerns and the list goes on. Fortunately, women can relieve some of this stress and pressure by engaging themselves in activities that are appealing to other females. How often do you see women sitting and talking together at a local coffee shop or jogging together in the neighborhood? Wives need to have relationships with other women, so they can enjoy girl friend activities. Husbands, please don't take it personally...it's an important way for your wives to find fulfillment.

Opinion counts, so give one!
