Heart disease remains the number one cause of death among women. Knowing the symptoms and the risk can help your chances of preventing and controlling heart disease. There are common symptoms of a heart attack for women that could vary when compared to men. The symptoms include nausea, neck and shoulder pain, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath. The pain and tightness in the chest associated with a heart attack in women can indeed be more subtle then men and these symptoms can be in addition to the usual chest pain associated with a heart attack.
Since the symptoms for a heart attack in women can seem to be unrelated, knowing your risk for heart disease will be essential in preventing a heart attack. The common symptoms that are found in men and women like weight, high blood pressure, and cholesterol levels remain the same, but there are more factors that effect women and pose a greater risk for heart disease. Stress and depression, metabolism issues, post menopause estrogen levels and smoking increase a woman's chance for heart disease and a heart attack. Exercising good judgment, knowing your family history, and keeping in touch with your physician by having an annual physical will help you prevent or treat heart disease.
