One of the basic needs of man is food. Humans simply cease to exist without food. Food is the fuel of a complex machine called body. But what happens when cultures melt and cuisines collide? What happens when technology gives rise to massive food production? What happens when man discovers fast food? The simple answer is: a very wide range of food selection and excess weight. It may be an exaggeration to say obesity but for most who take pleasure in eating, there is always a risk of consuming a larger amount of food than what the body needs. There is just so much food around to try and most of the addictive ones are the unhealthy ones at that. Unhealthy means high saturated fat contents and low nutritional value.
Having all these foods is not the main problem. It is the temptation of these high calorie foods that can lead to overeating. But giving into temptation and having an unhealthy eating habit coupled with a sedentary lifestyle are the culprits for unwanted bulges. Other than having to wear plus size clothes, being fat and overweight poses a lot of risks on your health. Fat deposits can clog your arteries resulting to heart attacks and atherosclerosis. Your blood sugar level surges and this could lead to diabetes. Your blood pressure will increase, putting you at a serious risk for stroke. Being overweight also hinders you from enjoying physical activities because it takes so much of your energy to bear your excess weight.
Weight loss is essentially the ultimate goal in battling the bulge. In order to be healthy, one needs to get in shape and switch to an active lifestyle that involves exercising. Along with that, a balanced diet can be very effective for shedding those extra fats. Weight loss entails a lot of discipline, hard work, and motivation. Diet alone cannot give immediate results. It is important to engage in cardiovascular exercises such as power walking, jogging, running, dancing and aerobics to increase your heart beat and keep it in a high pace. These cardiovascular activities get your body worked up resulting to loss of fat. To increase your body's ability to burn calories, engage in weight training as well for muscle building. More muscles mean higher metabolism and a slimmer body. Being able to shed more calories can let you eat the food you want without having to worry about gaining weight.
Losing weight takes dedication but it does not have to mean depriving and restricting at all times. You can lose weight while having fun by making your lifestyle active. If you like the nature trekking, burn those fat by hiking with friends. If you have always been fascinated with bodies of water, go surfing, kayaking, and boat rowing. There are also a lot of sports for you to choose from: basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis, badminton, Frisbee, soccer, etc. Dedicate yourself to at least one physical activity that you enjoy doing. This makes losing weight more of a recreation than work. Fight off the bulge now and lose some weight.
