For years now I have been writing virus removal guides and over the last several months I've even started created video's on how to remove rouge security clients for free. The problem with writing a guide to remove Windows Police Pro isn't that it can't be done, it's just very hard to do and from all the simple questions I get asked by people from my normal articles I'm very hesitant to recommend anyone without a very good understanding of the windows operating system to remove this threat themselves.
It's not that people can't learn it's just all the steps involved in the repair. If you are planning to undertake the repair yourself then please read the full article here. It will not cover all the repair steps necessary but it will give you a very good idea of what you are up against and more importantly a few things to watch out for.
This threat stops all executable programs from running except for the misleading rouge security client and your web browser. The reason for this happening is from another executable that is running in the back ground. This executable file often goes by the name desote.exe. any program you attempt to run is then checked against this program. If it is not on the "allowed list" it shuts the program down. As we already stated only a few programs are on the list. This is why you are unable to run your security client.
In most cases you are still able to edit the registry and that is where you are going to have to begin. Editing the registry is not for the faint at heart. Always do a full data backup first and then back the Windows registry. You will need to change how windows handles executable files back to default. There are a few virus removal websites out there that have a .reg file already made to fix this issue. This still caries risk because merging or overriding any registry file can be dangerous so a backup still needs to be made first.
Once this registry key is over written the user can then open up the Task Manager and end the necessary Windows Police Pro processes. Once this is done you can then delete the remaining files using your real antivirus software.
As you can see this threat is not the easiest thing in the world to remove. It can take a bit of research online to find the necessary file traces to delete the whole program. Whenever possible we do recommend a real security client to help out with the removal of this. Once you are able to change how windows handles executables it makes the whole process much easier to manage.
