What happen when the operating system of your computer won't shut down? You may observe the following situations:
• It may appear to stop responding or hang for several minutes. A message will be displayed on your screen saying, " Please wait while your computer shuts down, or;
• You may a blank screen, a blinking cursor or your computer may restart instead of shutting down.
The shutdown issues with specific hardware and software configurations running Windows 98 Second Edition. Most issues are when the computer is restarting when shutting down or it is hanging on shutdown.
What makes the shut down issues on your Windows 98?
• The fast shutdown registry is enabled.
• A damaged Exit Windows sound file.
• The terminate-and-stay resident (TSR) program is incorrectly close.
• The device driver is loaded incompatible, damaged or conflicting.
• There is an incompatibility on your APM which is Advanced Power Management or ACPI which is Advanced Configuration and Power Interface.
• The Basic Input/Output (BIOS) setting is incompatible.
• There is an incorrect configuration or damaged hardware on your computer.
• A video adapter in IRQ is not assigned in real mode.
To troubleshoot these issues, it is so simple and easy. Perform the following tests and check of they will work effectively.
• Uninstall Windows 98. Do this if you install a new hardware and software on your computer.
• Start your computer in safe mode and shut it down. When the computer will not shut down properly in safe mode, it can be an incompatibility between your Windows 98 and computer's BIOS.
• Some of the most common device drivers may cause problems. These are sound cards, video adapters, and network adapters. Try to disable them on the following categories ( display adapters, floppy disk controllers, hard disk controllers, keyboard, mouse, network adapters, PMCIA socket, ports, SCSI controllers, sound, video and game controllers)
• Contact your hardware vendor for further help to find out the technical support you need.
