Picking The Right Product
Most affiliate marketers use ClickBank as their main resource for finding products to promote, and if you are one of them, then picking the right product shouldn't be too difficult. The reason for this is that under each product in the marketplace are some statistics about the product and how well it is selling.
You may have already heard that the first thing to look out for is a high gravity (grav) this uses some complicated maths which takes into account lots of things like how long it was since the last affiliate that is promoting the product sold one, and frankly you don't need to know any more than high equals good.
Next I like to look at %/refd, and what you want is for this to be around 80% as this shows that the vendor is trying to better the landing page of their site and just makes it more likely to be a good site.
Now look at the average sale, if the sale price is high then it will be harder to sell but on the flip side you don't have to sell as many to make the same amount as if you were selling something that doesn't cost as much.
Finally, look to see if the vendor has tools for affiliates that can help you out and make life easier, for example giving you keywords.
Some ideas for all you affiliates
There are loads of different places where you can promote your product and make money. And this is a list of just a few:
Article websites
Article directories like this one or Squidoo, all you have to do is write an article similar to this, (but on the subject of whatever it is that you're promoting) and also make sure that it's information that people want to read. The benefits of this is that they are free and relatively easy to make, they also rank quite high on search engines, however you don't have as much control over the content as you would with your own website.
Blogs and Forums
Once again you must write information that people want, not just spam the sites, as people will ignore you and the sites themselves will get annoyed with you and you won't make money. The pros and cons of this method are similar to that of the article sites.
AdWords
AdWords can be a good resource, so long as you write a good advert, however AdWords will not always allow you to send people to a hop link so you may need your own site, it is important that the content of your advert matches the content of the site you send traffic to, as otherwise people will just leave the page straight away and keep looking for what they want. In other words you need to make it easy for people to buy the product. The benefits are that you don't need to write as much, but if you aren't careful, you will throw money down the drain from advertising
Social networking sites
Social networking sites like twitter and Facebook can work as places to get the word out and make money, but, like blogs and forums you need to make the material relevant or you won't make money.
