Brighton, a city on the south coast of Great Britian, attracts 80,000 tourists every year. The city is known as the gay capital of Britian because of its large LGBT community, in addition to its annual Gay Pride carnival in August and Winter Pride event in March.
The city of Brighton was established prior to the 11th century, but didn't attract the notice of citizens until the 1700's, when it became known as a health resort. Once the destination became reachable by train in the early 19th century, it became popular as a spot to take a day trip. The original city, known as Bristelmestune, burned down in 1514 during a battle between English and French soldiers, so very little of the medieval city remains intact today. However, part of St. Nicholas Church in Brighton does date back to the Middle Ages.
There is quite a bit to do in Brighton, depending upon one's interests. Religious people will find several churches or synagogues, including the Middle Street Synagogue, which is one of the oldest Jewish worship houses in all of Europe and is currently being restored. There are also several beaches, including a nude beach.
Between Brighton's piers, you can find bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and arcades. The eastern part of Brighton's seafront features one of Europe's largest marinas, although there is no actual pool there. The eastern side of the beach also features a large sports complex, which has been available to the public since 2007.
Most importantly, Brighton is home to several festivals. The Brighton Festival in May is the second largest arts festival in the United Kingdom, and includes public access to artists' homes as galleries. Another festival, the Brighton Festival Fringe, runs at the same time. There are also several local music festivals and a winter solstice celebration, in addition to LGBT pride festivals in August.
