Why Most Bloggers Make Very Little Money and How to Turn It Around

Expert Author Michael Pollock

If you're like most people, you started your blog to earn a little extra money; maybe enough to quit your full-time job and work from home. Unfortunately, you probably don't make much money though, do you? Although it may be little consolation, you're not alone. The sad fact is, most bloggers don't make more than a few dollars per month from their blogging activities. I should know because I used to be one of them. In this article, I'll tell you why most bloggers don't make any money, and more important, I'll tell you how you can begin to turn it all around.

There are several reasons most bloggers don't make any money, but I'll boil it down to just one: you don't treat it like a business. See, most new bloggers - when they first get started online - don't look at it as launching a business. They simply go to their favorite free blogging service, and start a free blog. Since it's free, they have nothing invested except the few minutes it takes to set-up their new account. And when you have very little invested in something, it's easy to not take it seriously.

Here are three ways you can begin to make money as a blogger:

1. Treat it like a business. If you want to earn a full-time living online, you need to take it seriously. You need to treat it like a business. That means you need to decide what three actions you need to perform each day, and determine to get those three things done no matter what. In most cases, blogging success comes from writing good content, and promoting that content. So set up a schedule for yourself each day, and make sure you get things done.

2. Build an email list. Look at almost any six-figure blogger, and you'll see one thing they all have in common. The heart and soul of their business is their email list. Yes, their blog is important, but their blog is only one part of an overall business model that revolves around email marketing.

3. Use a realistic money-making strategy. Forget about advertising. In most cases, it's a terrible business model for newer bloggers. Instead, focus on an information products business model. With this sort of model, you earn money by selling information products. The products can be your own, or they can be someone else's, such as affiliate products or Private Label Rights (PLR) products.

If you do just those three things, you'll set yourself on a new course; a course that leads to a full-time income from your blogging activities.
