Why Do Most People Exercise?

Today, it's hard to turn on the TV without seeing a commercial that promotes the newest abs machine or some other stationary bike that helps you work out all of your muscles in just under 15 minutes. The same goes when you surf the internet - almost on every page you'll see an add promoting the newest workout miracle that turns you from skinny to massive or from fat to fit. Seems like today, exercise is everywhere you look, no matter what part of the world you live in. So, why's that? Why do most people exercise?

The first answer would be social pressure. If you take a look at the magazines, you'll see only perfect women, with perfect bodies, that don't seem to have an ounce of fat on them. If you watch a movie, all the actors are ripped, and when you take a look at the latest music video, you'll seldom see artists that pack on a few. This type of pressure makes people self-conscious and leads them to exercise at least three times a week, hoping that in no time they'll have the body that they desire.

Another reason is stress and lack of movement. With today's office jobs that make us sit in front of a computer 8 hours a day, all of our muscles ache, and the stiffness is overbearing. This is why, it's not uncommon for people to hit the gym, or jog every morning, cycle, swim, or partake in another form of fitness exercise they like.

Needless to say, people exercise because they need to. There are certain illnesses that have painful symptoms that are more bearable if a steady exercise routine is introduced in the sufferers' life.

Least of all, people exercise because they like it! Once you got the hang of it, the feeling of being tired, but full of energy and waking up rested after a good work-out the day before, is addictive!
