For years now I've wondered why I have acne, is it to do with genetics, hormones or just plain old bad luck? Well you may be surprised that there are many causes of acne, not just the one. So let's begin by exploring some of the biggest causes of acne that you will face.
Diet
Unfortunately you are what you eat. This is all so true when it comes to acne, by eating a poor diet - in particular you a diet high in fatty and oily foods (highly processed foods) you are much more likely to have an oily face and as a result, acne. The reason for this is that, you body process the food you eat and the grease from it, to put it simply, goes to your face.
That is why I strongly recommend that you avoid fatty and oily foods if you want to reduce your risk of acne. It is also recommend that you drink plenty of water, as it has been conclusively shown to help cleanse the body and keep your face clean.
Hormones
Have you ever noticed that a lot of teenagers have acne or an oily face? well there is simple explanation for this, it is a hormone imbalance. There is no other time in your life that your hormones are in a greater imbalance then when you are a teenager. Essentially your body is being told to produce more oil to cover this skin, this oil blocks pores and as a result you end up with terrible acne.
Unfortunately there is very little that you can do to correct this issue. However, one of the best remedies is to cleanse your face often. How often you may ask? Well, every morning after you've woken up and every night before you go to bed. Try using an alcohol based cleansers as these have been shown to provide the absolute best results for anybody trying to cleanse your face.
Genetics
I bet you anything, that if you acne, you have friends that don't. When you ask them their secret, they reply with "I don't do anything" Well, this shouldn't be a surprise. Some people just aren't prone to an oily face and therefore are not prone to the effects of acne. I know, it's unfair that some people can just have clear skin.
The question is then, why is this? It has to do with your genetics - you see, as a good rule of thumb if your parents, either one or both of them had acne when they were kids, then chances are you're going to have acne. How do you over come this? Well, I'm sorry to say there is no way that you can over come this issue, you are what you are. As we've already covered with hormones, the best defence is to cleanse your face with an alcohol based cleansers.
That being said, I hope by now that you have an understanding of the many causes of acne and how you can best over come them. Just remember, don't give up - fighting acne can be an on going battle. This is especially true if you're a teenager, keep your head held high, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
