Why Do Bad Things Happen?

Sometimes things happen to us or others we know that just don't seem fair. Why must we go through this grief? And deep sadness? Do we really need to feel these negative emotions to give us contrast to our joyful, happy feelings?

Or are we framing things the wrong way? Are we thinking that our feelings of grief are bad, when perhaps we should view them in a different light?

What kind of light you may be asking?

Perhaps the next time you go through a negative emotional time we could think of the time as a transition time. A transition into a new phase.

All through our lives we have to die small deaths. The end of a friendship or romantic relationship. The end of our childhood. The end of college.

Every period in our lives has an ending. And after that ending comes a new phase and new beginning. The end of single life equals the beginning of marriage. The end of childhood is the beginning of adult-hood. And the end of a friendship is the beginning of new friendships.

That is not to say that we can't ever feel down. But to have the peace of mind that when we're through feeling bad there is something new for us on the other side.

Something that may be scary, but is beautiful nonetheless. We may not know what the new beginning will be like and that alone can be frightening. Yet knowing that whatever it is, will turn out for the best in the end.

This is comforting. This is what we should all focus upon. Bad things happen because after them is something wonderful.
