In a struggling economy, even one that is in somewhat of a recovery, businesses, especially auto dealers are fighting for every last customer. What has changed over the last few years in the automotive industry is the fundamental marketing model. Gone are the days of placing ads in newspapers and waiting for people to show up on the car lot. Now days, you must have a solid internet strategy which includes automotive SEO and automotive social networking. The two I might add are not mutually exclusive.
There are a finite number of potential clients in your market for your cars, we all know that. So the question becomes, how do you corral the greatest amount of those potential car buyers and direct them to your inventory and ultimately your showroom? The answer is a big one. But if you would allow me to simplify it here, I will.
Auto dealers, smart ones anyway have embraced the web and all that it offers. When I say the web, I don't mean simply putting up a website with the "If you build it they will come." philosophy. Smart dealers know that to compete and even thrive in this new economy, the must take advantage of all the tools that are available to them on the internet. Tools such as SEO, third party advertising, PPC advertising as well as an aggressive social media strategy which includes social networking, article marketing, blogging, video and more.
The reason many auto dealers may find this automotive SEO and automotive social media strategy difficult to embrace is that 1) They don't understand it, and 2) It is time consuming and difficult to implement on their own. I would suggest to those dealers that they take the time to understand why a well rounded strategy is vital to their ongoing existence and to find someone to help them implement it.
I would argue that if you do not have someone to do this work for you like an automotive SEO company, you should at least have someone who can train or coach you on the subject. You must look at this strategy as an investment, not a cost. As your returns from newspaper advertising dwindles, you should begin to invest those advertising dollars in an aggressive internet strategy. Once you see your ROI, you will be thankful that you did before your competitors did.
