Why Breath is Important in Yoga!

Expert Author Thaddeus Ferguson

Let's be honest; everyone knows that breathing plays an essential role in our ability to live.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you are not breathing then odds are you aren't living either.

Yet, when it comes to breathing and Yoga, people oftentimes don't acknowledge or realize just how important the breath is in regards to your practice.

That's why in this article you will discover some of the reasons why breath is so important in Yoga.

Why Breath is Important in Yoga!

First off, when it comes to Yoga, specifically yoga on the mat there are a variety of different reasons why you might be doing it.

One of the biggest influences Yoga can have on your life is when you begin to become aware of the fact that your life on the Yoga mat is a direct reflection of your life off the Yoga mat.

In other words, what you do on the Yoga mat more than likely is occurring in your life in some way if not in all ways off the mat as well.

Now, that you have begun to realize this amazing fact in this moment you can also recognize the power and importance of becoming aware of the breath on the yoga mat.

At the very least it will give you the opportunity to notice the kind of effect it has when you begin to become aware of your breath on the mat.

The truth of the matter is we could spend days talking about all of the different benefits of breathing that you will experience on the mat and for every benefit there will be someone or something that might tell you otherwise.

Yet, when you simply take the time to experience the effects of simply being aware of the rising and falling of your breath during your 90 minute yoga practice you can see the difference for yourself.

What's even better is in the fact that today you can simply notice when you are and are not breathing during your yoga practice and how that feels. Tomorrow you can make a conscious decision to breathe in and out throughout the entire yoga class and notice how that feels.

Of course, since odds are you haven't been consciously aware of your breath for quite some time in your yoga practice or in life I challenge you to spend the next 60 days or 60 yoga classes with the intention of breathing in and out for the entire 90 minutes or however long your Yoga practice on the mat is.

Odds are you will discover the kind of benefits that not only occur on the yoga mat but off the yoga mat as well.
