100 years ago 90% of people were self employed while only 10% were employees. Over the industrial age working styles changed. "Get a good job with security and benefits" we all heard from our parents to the point that only 10% of people were self employed and the masses had jobs.
The boomers were the worker bees. The thing to do was to find a company right out of school and stay there for 40 years.
That's a far cry from today's standards. Today if someone stays in a job for 3-5 years we consider that long term. As we moved into the millennium we saw a large emergence of home based businesses. Boomers were tired of being broke from their jobs and the generations to follow saw that a good job with security and benefits didn't get their parents where they wanted to be.
With the popularity of home based business we are moving back to where we were a century ago where 90% of the population will be self employed in some manner.
So why are people not satisfied with their job? What are they missing?
A J.O.B aka Just Over Broke, Journey Of the Broke is the way we are taught right from childhood. We are institutionalized right from the get go.
Think about it: We go to school, follow instructions have recess, go back to class, follow instructions, take a lunch break, go back to class, follow instructions and watch the clock until 3pm when the bell rings. From there we get a job where we go to work, follow instructions, take a coffee break. Go back to work, follow instructions, take a lunch break, go back to work and watch the clock until the 5 pm bell rings. You can't blame anyone for having a job; it's what we are taught to do.
A good friend of mine, we'll call him Stewart, ran a few of the local gas stations in town. He had authority to make some decisions but his boss was always after him for something. Stewart was excited one year because for a Christmas bonus his boss gave him a pager (keep in mind this was before the days of Blackberry). He said "My boss is so generous he gave me this pager that I can also use for personal reasons." I hated to burst his bubble but I had to explain to him what he really just got. What his gift really was was a leash. His boss could now contact him 24/7, which he did. Stewart was now a slave to his boss (even more than before) and he was okay with it.
It is this kind of thinking that keeps so many people in a job however more and more people today are realizing that this is not the way to get ahead. As a matter of fact you will never become rich working for someone else. You can do okay and live comfortably, but you will never have the dream life of the rich and famous. The only way for real financial independence, is through being your own boss.
There are many ways to do this. You can create an original business idea, invest a bunch of money and take a chance (the odds are against you). You can buy into a franchise if you have lots of money already or you can go with the third option of a home based business with a proven system of success.
There are hundreds out there and I have tried several. If you are going this route, do your due diligence. Research the facts not the hype. Once you have found your opportunity of choice, jump in with both feet and don't look back.
I have found a really cool opportunity where you can work from home or work from the beach, or work from your home on the beach. You can be your own boss, make your own decisions and create your own destiny. You will learn the valuable skill of harnessing the power of the internet, a skill that you can take with you anywhere. Feel free to check out my site.
See you on the beach
