Why Angular Cheilitis Ruins Your Social Life!

Expert Author Lanie Dills

Before we talk about the social ramifications for Angular Cheilitis, let's talk a little bit about what it is. It starts out and manifests on the angles of the mouth as deep cracks or splits which look exactly like infected paper cuts.

This condition, if not cleared up, spreads to a wider area, and can be extremely persistent and almost impossible to get rid of. Over time, the angry-looking unsightly cracks in your mouth corners become so irritated that they regularly bleed and crust over in a cyclic pattern.

Angular Cheilitis or what we commonly call "cracked mouth corners'' is an affliction that is actually caused by an over-growth of the Candida fungus. The fungus is always present on the skin of our lips and mouth, but is usually kept from progressing to the infectious stage by our body's own immune system.

The Candida fungus needs a constant moist environment in which to flourish, so when saliva is allowed to accumulate in the mouth corners for long periods of time, the fungus becomes rampant, and eventually leads to the painful and ugly splits in your mouth corners.

One very common way that the affliction innocently starts out is by over exposure to the wind and sun. When your lips get dry, the natural inclination is to sooth them by licking them. Unthinkingly, when you constantly lick your lips, you are providing the perfect breeding environment for the fungus to take hold and grow.

Many young people suffer this affliction because they love to participate in outdoor activities. If the disease hangs on for a long period of time, their friends and school buddies tend to start making fun of them. Bouts of Angular Cheilitis can last for weeks, several months, or in extreme cases for several years.

Kids can be very cruel, and nothing can be worse to a teenager than to have raw, red, bleeding, and crusty sores in the corners of his or her mouth. The painful cracks are often mistaken by the uninformed as symptoms of uncleanliness, or of much more serious diseases such as Aids.

Frequently, sufferers are ostracized, scoffed at, and ridiculed mercilessly. They are often called all kinds of derogatory names such as Aids Lips and Filthy-Mac-Nasty. This constant belittling takes its toll, and soon the sufferer no matter his age, dreads any social interaction, and he eventually just withdraws and becomes a recluse.

I personally suffered with this nasty-looking, painful affliction for more than three years, I really thought I would have to live with it for the rest of my life until, fortunately, I found a simple and natural three hour cure for my Angular Cheilitis. No doctors were needed and I applied the remedy right in the privacy of my own home. Read more about my experience with angular cheilitis.
