Which New York City Borough to Live In?
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

If you're moving to New York, or currently live there and happen to be thinking about relocating to a different borough, I'd like to take some time to talk about the many different options that you have available.

With such a wide variety of housing in New York, the options are limitless. There are so many neighborhoods, with such broad range of different cultures and offerings throughout.

Still, the cost of living in New York can be very expensive. Homes that would sell for five figures in other cities may sell for over half a million dollars in New York City, simply because of location.

That's what real estate is all about, though. As a result, finding the right neighborhood in New York City can often be challenging.

Let's take a look at each of the boroughs, with some pros and cons relating to each. I hope this provides you with some useful information if you're thinking about relocating.

First, there's Manhattan. Everyone wants to live in the Big Apple, but it may be hard to afford it. Prices are the highest here, due to the high standard of living.

If Manhattan's out of the question or you'd like something a bit more peaceful, look to Brooklyn. Neighborhoods like Williamsburg and Park Slope have really developed in recent years, and cost a bit less.

In Queens, places like Astoria, Woodside, and Long Island City are all cost effective options that give you very easy access to Manhattan at lower prices.

As far as the Bronx goes, everything in Manhattan is just a 20-30 minute subway ride away. However, the quality of the neighborhoods (and prices) may vary heavily.

Staten Island is the furthest removed from Manhattan in terms of accessibility, but the prices may be the best for the money. Be prepared to get used to ferries and busses though, as these are the ways to get around if you don't have a car.
