Where to Place Google AdSense Ads on Your Website

When it comes to generating revenue for your website, there are many ways to go about doing it. One of the most common ways is through the Google AdSense program. It is free to join, easy to set up and depending on a variety of factors, people will click on the ads because they are used to seeing them on web pages.

Now while they may click on them, you will find that if you own several sites, the CTR, or click through rate can vary to different degrees depending on the color used, the ad size and the ad placement. Once you have visitors that are coming to your site, it is very important to get the best CTR you can to help earn you the most money.

If you visit the Google web site or if you do a general Google search online, it will show you an AdSense heat map that points out the best places to put ads to get clicks. Often times the best place is directly above the content or the post. The only thing you have to worry about when placing it there is to make sure the title of the post does not read in such a way that if Google were to view your site, it would look like you are encouraging people to click the ad below.

If you have some text underneath the title like posted by, or the date, or even put in a little piece of tag that says advertisements or ads by, you should be safe from the Google police. Most people will tend to float the text left or right and wrap the text around just so they do not run the risk of a warning or ban by having the AdSense block directly underneath the title. Just to be clear, it is allowed, you just need to be smart about how you do it and read the help pages at Google to make sure you are following their guidelines.

The other parts of the page that usually have decent click-throughs are the left sidebar and the top of the page underneath the navigational bar or the bottom of the page above the footer. This makes sense as just like when reading a book, people tend to view things from left to right and from top to bottom. That makes the less likely click areas to the upper top of the page, the right sidebar or the lower left hand corner.

When it comes to text color for the ads, some people will tell you to go with the standard blue and green colors so visitors know they are Google ads. Others will tell you to match the color of your ads to the colors of your sites so the ads blend in and look more natural. There is no right or wrong answer in this regard, what is the best answer is to test it both ways and then see which way has the highest click percentage. Once the website is up with good content and you have a lot of traffic, the work is not done, there is always testing to do.

If you are looking to get additional external links coming into your site, there are many ways to accomplish that. One of the best ways is to use article directory sites or free article directory websites that you can use to help get nice links to your site. You just have to be sure that the links from the directories are DoFollow so you get the credit from the search engines.
