Due to the worldwide economic crisis, unemployment, and the uncertainty of existing jobs, numerous folks have decided to dive head first into online marketing and begin building multiple streams of income. Being overwhelmed and not having a clear plan as to where to begin is normal. Social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and blogging are essential tools to build any online business...BUT where the heck do you start? E-books, videos, Free this and that...it never ends. The opportunities are plentiful. It's so easy to jump from one opportunity to the next and waste a lot of time and money on things that won't put a dime in your pocket.

Find A Mentor

Trying to start an online marketing business without a mentor is like building a professional career without any education. You WILL NOT know what to focus on and what steps to take if you're running around the Internet without any direction or education. Find someone who will guide you, empower you and help you through your struggles. Humble yourself. You DO NOT have all the answers. There is a lot to learn but the journey is exciting and very rewarding. Your mentor is going to be your lifeline.

It's a simple game we all learned as children...Follow the leader.

Choose Your Primary Business

If you are building a home based business and are looking to use the Internet as a tool for leverage, choose ONE company and stick with it. Trying to build too many businesses in the beginning is going to frustrate and confuse you. It's like trying to be a Veterinarian and a Lawyer right out of college. Sure you can make excellent money and be good at both. Things start getting tricky when you CANNOT master one. One business is guaranteed to starve and suffer. Help build one team and watch the duplication process multiply.

Put Blindfolds On

Now that you have a primary MLM business to build, put blindfolds on immediately. Temptation will surround you. People are going to find out you are in "XYZ" company and BAM! You are now a part of every other MLM and home based business's target market. Everyone is going to want you to join their money making opportunity. You need to avoid the distraction because succumbing to even "looking" at one here and there is going to waste your time. Time is money. The ONLY thing that will put money in your pocket is bringing people into your business. Be loyal to your company and stick with it.

The 3 steps I've listed are absolutely essential if you want to be productive and start making money right away. After you have disciplined yourself and are focused on building your primary business and helping your team, then you can start looking at other opportunities such as blogging, affiliate marketing and Internet marketing.
