When a Lie is Better Than the Truth

One of the most intriguing finding in medical science is called placebo effect. The Free Dictionary define placebo as "any dummy medical treatment; originally, a medicinal preparation having no specific pharmacological activity against the patient's illness or complaint given solely for the psycho-physiological effects of the treatment." Most interestingly the placeboes or the dummy medicines are often found to be as effective as the actual medicines in treating the ailment of a person. The best thing about use of the placebo is that they have no side effect as they have no harmful chemicals in it.

The medical scientist practicing allopathic medication, often consider all other forms of alternate therapy like homeopathy and ayurveda medicines as placebos. The naturopathy and yoga system too fall in this category. Once can also deny the role of the faith, prayer and love in healthy living also as placebos. Yet in reality, most people are able to live a healthy and happy life not because of the medicines they consume or follow the advice of medical doctors but by following the alternative therapies which are not considered true by the scientists. Even Napoleon Bonaparte said, "Medicines are only fit for old people".

Many people consider religion and God as the biggest lies invented by mankind. They deny the existence of God and call scriptures as the figment of human imagination. Even the ardent followers of the religions cannot prove conclusively the truth of the Gods and Prophets. There has been a number of studies which has denied the existence of Hindu Gods like Rama and Krishna. IN the west, people have been fighting over the existence of Jesus Christ and the stories of Bibles. Even though Buddha is considered to be a historical person, yet few agree with the mystique that surrounded Buddha by his portrayal as God. There has been so many interpolation in the scriptures that no one claim that they are true. When the existence of Prophets and Gods itself is in question, where is the basis of calling the Scriptures as Gospel Truth.

Yet there is no denying the religions have brought love and compassion in the humanity. It is a hard truth that the religious people live longer, they are more faithful, suffer less mental and physical problems and live happier and healthier life.

It is not that man has not tried to create an ideal world based on the truth by denying everything that is not true or possible to be proven as true. Marx created Communism as a scientific method to govern the people. Yet that hardly lived for fifty years. The scientific inventions lead to the human race fighting two World Wars in the twentieth century killing tens of millions of human beings. Science has not found any solution of drug addiction, alcoholism, obesity, hatred and terrorism. There is no scientific method to under terrorist or drug addiction and solve these two problems afflicting the world.

The world can attain love and peace only if they follow virtuous life as proposed in the scriptures. The Scriptures creates religions which alone can create a common vision and life-style for the people. When people live a life based on shared vision, they can be happy and healthy.
