When you were under the age of 12 years old, you might not have required much evidence or even knew what the word evidence meant. When someone told you that a magical person traveled around the world giving out presents on Christmas day, I never even questioned it. Especially if I was the recipient of those gifts.
The problem becomes bigger, as we grow older and start to find out, that some of the stuff that we learned about, when we were younger, was actually wrong. Some of the information that our parents and teachers taught us, were actually lies. I remember my mother pointing to the half empty glass of milk and the missing cookies that we left on the fireplace mantel for Santa Claus, the night before, only to find out that my father was the one responsible for consuming the goodies and he was impersonating Santa Claus.
My parents also informed me that Jesus was God and that God was God also. We never got into the Holy Trinity, but I'm sure that my parents would have grouped these individuals together and convinced me that they were all leaders in the Christian organization.
Obviously I learned that Santa Claus wasn't responsible for bringing me my gifts on Christmas Day, but it took me a few more years to realize that most of the religions around the world provide very little proof or evidence for some of the claims that they make.
When are we finally going to start demanding a little more proof about our religious beliefs? Why do we take it for granted, that our religious beliefs are right and others are wrong.
If you truly believe that your religion is right, without questioning it, you might be disappointed in the future, especially if someone reveals the truth to you about another religion or spiritual practice.
It doesn't hurt to ask questions, it's the only way that you're going to discover the truth.
