When Can I Wear Makeup? Common Post-Eyelid Surgery Inquiries

Many doctors forget to answer everyday questions in their post-operation healing care packages. There are some commonly asked questions that come with eyelid surgery. The most important thing is to heal well but after that, you can start looking in to previous routines.

If you just got your eyelid surgery, congratulations! You are on your way to having less puffy, younger and more rested looking eyes. This will restore more youthfulness to your face and you will see the results fairly quickly. It is important to follow all of your post-operation instructions and to call your doctor's office with any and all questions you may have. But what happens after that?

Many people are concerned about when they can return to normal eye activity. Sometimes the surgeon will forget to include notes about this in your recovery packet, as they don't really apply to recovery. One common question is about makeup. When is it ok to begin wearing it again? Typically, one week after surgery is a time to begin experimenting. There may be a lot of swelling and bruising in the area that you're eager to cover up. Makeup may go on the upper and lower lid at this point, as the stitches usually dissolve in seven to ten days. If your stitches are still there you should avoid the makeup as you wouldn't want to get any infections.

Wearing contacts is another concern. This is something you will have to talk to your personal doctor about. The usual guideline is about ten days after surgery, but it is important to double check. As for under eye creams or anti-aging gels or anything along those lines, it is the same thing: when the stitches are dissolved completely it is safe to put things on your eyes. Creams though, should wait. Remember that you just got a surgery to make you look younger. Chances are that you don't need that cream anymore.

Many people wonder if surgery will affect their eyesight. It may be a little more blurry than usual for the first few days due to the swelling. Beyond that though, your sight should not be adversely affected at all. After the first four to five days your vision should return to normal. If it doesn't, there can be a problem so it is necessary to call your doctor as soon as possible.

Whatever you do, make sure that the surgeon you'[re working with is licensed and experienced as this will aid in every aspect of the surgery that there is. He or she should be able to provide references and will make you feel confident in their offices.

After following all of the instructions, you are free to resume a modified version of your previous routines in the first ten days, as soon as the stitches are dissolved. Beyond that time period, you need to alert someone if something doesn't seem correct, as this will help your surgeon fix it in a timely manner.
