Whether you are thinking of buying or selling your yacht, you need to find a good yacht brokerage that you can trust. Some of the points that you should consider are honesty, value and competency. Other points depend on whether you are the buyer or seller.

A yacht is a huge expense and many people choose to purchase one from a yacht brokerage. A brokerage sells boats to interested parties for a commission. Obviously, before you consider which one to go with when selling, you will want to know the commission rate that they charge. Most will charge a higher commission rate for a smaller boat than for a larger boat. You should know that all commission rates are negotiable. Make sure that you shop around for a yacht brokerage that will give you a good deal, especially if you have a larger vessel to sell.

Naturally, whether you are buying or selling, you want to look for honesty in a yacht brokerage. No one wants to deal with a dishonest person in any way, but some people are very dishonest without seeming to be. Check out the reputation of the brokerage before making a commitment, and make sure that there are no complaints filed against them.

The brokerage should be competent when it comes to knowing how to price your yacht. Those who are not familiar with the business may end up underpricing the vessel, costing you tens of thousands of dollars. There may be those who will over price the yacht, costing you time. Your yacht brokerage should have a good concept of the market and how much to price a yacht.

Always look for experience in a yacht brokerage. They should have been in the business for a while. The longer, the better, obviously as this shows they're able to stay in business. They will not only be able to sell your yacht at a good price, but also be able to find you the perfect yacht if you are seeking to purchase one from a broker.

Make sure that you get the best value with your brokerage. Look for a broker who knows the business and the market and will act in a professional manner as well as make you a good deal on the commission.

In order to find the best yacht brokerage, you will have to shop around. Talk to a couple of people until you get comfortable with one. Find out about their experience. See the selection that they offer before you make your purchase.

Neither the seller or buyer should deal with a brokerage that is pushy or insists that you sign a contract that you do not understand. These legal contracts are binding. If you do not understand the contract, you should consult with an attorney. Also remember that buying a yacht is like buying a home. You will want to screen the firm as you would a home brokerage firm.
