What to Do When it is Terribly Hot Outside?

If you do not belong to the risk group, the biggest nuisance, which can be expected from the hot environment - solar and heat stroke. The first one is developed in response to a direct effect of sunlight on the head, and the second one is from the heat dissipated and general overheating. These conditions are accompanied by a violation of water-electrolyte balance and blood circulation disorders. But the symptoms are identical - such as the sharp weakness, lethargy, headache, dizziness and tinnitus.

If you see a person with signs of incipient heat or heat stroke, take him or her into the shade, the air blowing through the place, undress him or her, give to that person a drink of cold water and put a cold compress on his or her head.

Salvation from the heat

Summer heat leads to overheating, solar and thermal shock. Overheating is particularly dangerous for children under 12 years of age and older people, as well as patients with obesity and the heart disease.

When the outside temperature is raising to 29-35 degrees Celsius (84-95 Fahrenheit) the body is overheating after 15 minutes of stay.

When the temperature is 35-37 Celsius (95-98 Fahrenheit) degrees the risk of heat stroke is possible after a 15-25 minute stay.

How to avoid heat stroke:

1. Wear light clothing made of natural fibers (flax, cotton)

2. Avoid physical exertion at temperatures above 30-35 Celsius (86-95 Fahrenheit) degrees.

3. Drink plenty of water, especially during physical activity.

4. Do not drink alcohol.

5. It is desirable to be in the shade or cool place.

6. Avoid overheating during treatment with antipyretic drugs.

First aid for heatstroke:

1. Take a horizontal position in the shade or ventilation. Put feet above the level of body.

2. Do not take drugs containing caffeine.

3. If you have a muscle cramps make a massage.

4. Apply cold compresses on the throat, stomach.

5. Drink water of room temperature, not chilled.
