What it Takes to Win Betting on Sports

Expert Author Sam Oconnel

With 98% of all people who bet on sports coming out as losers, you would think the two percent who win must have some kind of secret. Maybe a betting system or some other trick that allows them to win every bet. So many people end up searching for the secret that will make them winners.

To date, no one has been able to reveal the secret to the masses. It has been promised by scammers out to make a quick buck off the unsuspecting. Thus far it remains undelivered, and likely it will remain so. And for the same reason that Santa Claus never really shows up.

The sad thing is many people believe such a system exists because they have seen it promised so many times. The promises are made by scammers and will never be kept. They can never be kept, and the scammers know it before they set out to scam you.

What sets the winners apart is they have concluded that the perfect system does not exist any more than Santa and the Easter Bunny. They learn what it takes to win betting on sports, and they do it.

Look at sports betting from a rational standpoint and you will see how little it actually takes to win. A coin flip will win 50% of the time over the long haul, churning your bankroll to nothing. A win rate of about 52.7% will break even with the bookie. A 55% win rate will yield a profit to the bettor.

Looking at it like that, all you need to do is increase your win rate by 5% over what you can get with a coin toss. To accomplish that, you will need to increase the probabilities of a win by 5%. You do that by identifying situations that have shown that probability in the past.

Once you start betting on games that give you a situational advantage, you will start winning more bets. They are not that hard to find once you know where to look.
