Cleaning your futon mattress does not have to be painstakingly difficult. It also does not have to be expensive. Some people spend a lot on bleach and cleaning products but most of those harsh cleaning ingredients only damage your mattress.

If you want an effective and an easy way of cleaning your futon, here are some of the methods you can try:

Method 1: Hydrogen peroxide is used to clean wounds. It helps unseat dirt and helps disinfect your skin. Your mattress can also be disinfected using this. Just add a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide with a cup of water. Dip a sponge in the mixture and sponge bath your mattress.

If there are areas that are particularly stained, you should put a few drops of peroxide and sprinkle table salt on the area affected. This should effectively unseat dirt and grime from your mattress. In this way, you can easily wipe away the dirt. Once done, sponge bath it with clean water and vacuum to extract all the salt residues. Leave it in a nice airy room to dry.

Method 2: If there are molds in your mattress, try the vinegar method. This effectively removes molds and also gets rid of the stains it leaves behind. Just add a cup of white vinegar with 4 cups of water and spray it on all sides of the mattress or just to the area affected. Leave it there to dry for an hour. This should already help dissolve the mold and mildew insides.

After an hour, spray the mattress with clean water and use dry sponge to extract some of the moisture. Place the mattress in a sunny area to dry completely. It is important that the mattress will dry completely as a moist mattress is a good breeding ground for molds.

Method 3: If you have a smelly futon, you can simply sprinkle dry baking soda on both sides. Let it stay there for an hour. This is to help neutralize the odor. You can also use this method if you do not like the vinegar smell of the previous method.

Afterwards, use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of the baking soda. Leave it in a sunny area so it can dry up completely and the smell will completely fade away.

These methods are plain and simple, if you ask me, so there should be no stopping you from cleaning your mattress. Once you have chosen or of these methods, I am sure your futon will be as clean as new.
