What is There to Do in New York?
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

When asked what there is to do in New York, one has to laugh? The question might better be what is there that you can not do in the big apple. If you are only going to be in NY for a few days, there seems to be a need to pack in as much as possible. So we will take it from that premise.

Seeing a Broadway play is a must. The best place to get your tickets is in the center of Time Square. There is a booth there that offers the best shows at the best last minute prices. The drawback is that you do need to get there early and wait in line. The upside is that you will save substantially and get far better seats.

Now what to see? There is every show imaginable from Phantom of the Opera to Shrek the Musical. If you go during the holidays, there are even more shows. Many people love the Radio City Musical Rockets Christmas show. It is fun and the dancing is phenomenal.

Love to ice skate or at least watch other people ice skate? A must for any visitor is Rockefeller center is is located between 47th and 50th Streets and 5th and 7th Avenues. This scene is famous and has been used in movies, throughout the years.

Feel like catching a flick in between other activities? Check out the Angelika theater, an independent movie theater, with beautiful artwork adorning its ceilings and cool and unusual movies that you are not likely to find elsewhere.

If you love museums, you are definitely in the right city. The Museum of Natural History will keep you occupied for hours. It is huge and has lots of interactive activities as well as incredible displays, including a fantastic dinosaur display. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is another one of my favorites. You just go from one incredible piece of art work to another and I absolutely love the statue garden on the roof. It is breath taking. Oh and if you feel like stepping back in time, visit the Cloisters which features astounding architecture, spectacular artwork, and a peaceful retreat from the rest of Manhattan.

Now on to my favorite part of New York -- the food. It is almost impossible to find a bad restaurant in New York. The competition is much too fierce. You can find incredible restaurants on just about any block. What I like to do though is to go to places with a bit of history and that old world classic feel. Whenever I head to Manhattan I have one meal at the Waldorf Astoria. I love walking through this hotel and seeing the architecture and the artwork. I wander through the lobby and just soak in the ambiance. Then I go down to the Bull and Bears restaurant, their steak house, and have a late lunch or early dinner. It is like an old boy's club with its rich wood and impeccably trained staff. I like to imagine how many business deals were closed here over a glass of brandy and a cigar, when smoking was still allowed that is.

Another treat is to have lunch in the Plaza hotel. The murals on the ceiling will take your breath away and the food and service is amazing. You never know who you will see here from socialites to celebrities. The lunch is much less expensive than the dinner and in my opinion it is like getting a meal and a show. There is so much to take in. You get to feel like one of the elite on a much smaller budget.
