On the physical level, sex attraction refers to the sexual activity of a male and female. On the mental level, however, this refers to the activity of the masculine and feminine within in order to create.
Sex attraction is the coming together of the male and female. On the physical level, this creates life. On the mental level, this creates ideas. On the spiritual level, this creates a higher connection.
Physical sexual activity receives too much attention in our society. While there is no reason to criticize consensual adult sexual pursuit, something more seems to be happening. Why are men and women engaging to extra-marital sexual affairs? Are men unconsciously trying to find their "femininity" in an overly macho world? Are women tying to connect with their "masculinity" in a world not honoring the feminine? We live to create, but we must do so responsibly and understand that creativity happens on the mental and spiritual, as well as the physical plane.
Stimulating Our Unconscious
How do we "create" by combining our masculine and feminine? Obviously, on the physical plane, we do that by creating life through the fertilization of the female by the male. On the mental level, the conscious mind is the masculine and the unconscious is the feminine. The unconscious becomes fertile and creates ideas, similar to the womb creating life. Creation of thoughts occurs with the conscious mind stimulating the unconscious. The male stimulates the female. A simple concept, but one that we tend to ignore.
Life is creation, but creation is more than just a new life; it is also a new product or item, such as computer software, a dance routine or a meal. A new thought is equally important. Do we acknowledge this "other" kind of creation? Is too much emphasis put on the physical creation? In our society, external sexual activity pervades. In many religions, new life permeates. Where is the emphasis on new and independent products and thoughts? Where is the emphasis on a union with the divine? While sexual activity and new life are both part of the process, material and thought creation and spiritual connection are also in the equation.
Using Our Will
The masculine "Will," or our conscious mind, controls our thoughts. If we are lazy and listen to those around us, we are ruled by others. We see this in various forms of the media, which tell us what to think by supplying news that is geared to a particular view. For many, the media creates an opinion, so individuals don't have to think for themselves. How many of us are guilty of this?
Women too often allow strong men to dominate their lives. Many men acquiesce to dominant women. Many of us allow someone else to manage our thoughts. We should think about that. Are we using our own strengths to create our ideas, or are we allowing others to command us? I believe this is an area of utmost importance. This forces us to think for ourselves and use both our masculine and feminine. We can't relegate or delegate any part of ourselves to a member of the opposite sex, to a member of the same sex, or to society. Our strength is to use this instrument of Will and create our own world.
Some use the mind to dominate others. This violates the rule of balance in life by focusing on the masculine side and ignoring the feminine. Anyone dominated by another also violates the balance by focusing on the feminine and ignoring the masculine. Neither provides a point of power, leaving that person in the control of others, or at the mercy of those around him or her. If we don't stimulate our thoughts, or use our masculine conscious mind to fertilize our feminine unconscious, we are led by others.
The Rosicrucians talked of this domination of the masculine "Will" in the 15th century and reflected even earlier times. Today, too many are led by the thoughts of a few. Yet this is not a contemporary problem. This is a human condition that has existed for too long. Perhaps that is part of our current evolution. Perhaps we now have the knowledge and ability to stop allowing others to dictate to us. Our masculine and feminine must work together. This is true internally in order for our feminine to be stimulated, and it is true externally in society. Men and women must work together to create a better world. That is not going to happen until we internalize this balance.
Perhaps it is time to stop allowing others to do our thinking. Perhaps it is time to balance our conscious mind with our unconscious. Perhaps it is time to honor the need and power of each.
