What Spells Out Cancer?

Expert Author Don George

Are you one of those people who think that your genes spell out your risk for cancer? You are only part correct with that thought. There is another part of the equation that also needs to be looked at. This article will deal with that other part of the equation.

That other part of the cancer equation is actually a big part, and that part is the life that you lead. As a matter of fact one third of all of your cancers are directly linked to your diet and how you eat, how overweight you are and how much physical exercise you get.
How do you measure up to those questions? And I might add how much you smoke is not part of this equation.

Now relative to your diet, I am going to lay out the cold hard truth to you as unpleasant as it may be. Your popular American foods like your cheeseburgers, your french fries, your sodas, etc. etc. are a smooth path to your heart disease; these foods are also tailor made to deliver you to cancer. You do not like hearing that, do you?

Well all is not lost, here is the good news. Now you are correct when you say you can not choose your genes, but you certainly can control what you eat. Cancer is lowest in areas where you consume more fish, more produce and more whole grains. This is because you are eating less saturated fat and fewer refined carbohydrates. Now in areas where you eat an abundance of processed foods such as beef and potatoes, the Western fare, the cancer rates are highest. Are you getting my message, I hope so.

Relax; I am not suggesting that you have to move to another country to protect you and yours. All you need to do is simply eat five serving of produce a day. This alone may lower your overall cancer risk by twenty to thirty five per cent. If you eat just four servings of whole grains a week it may reduce your risk by thirty four per cent.

Get some exercise like walking on the beach or by not taking the elevator at work and walk up those stairs, it may not only provide you with some physical exercise but it may reduce your weight problem, two for one I would say. One last piece of info for you, some exercises may also reduce your hormones that are believed to cause your breast, your colon, your prostrate and uterine cancer, so get out there and start walking!

I believe I have made my case; genes are just one part of your cancer equation. And as always you must live well to be well.

I think. I read. I care. I inform. I coach.
Get back to me. Let's talk about it.
