What NOT To Buy Online Using PayPal

A lot of people today are using PayPal to buy items on the internet. To some, this is more convenient than using a credit card or electronic check. But did you know that you cannot always get a refund from the PayPal merchant on certain items purchased, in case you want to return them or did not receive them? I stumbled upon this problem several times. If you are purchasing an intangible good, for example online advertising, and have not received the service or the quality of service you wanted, PayPal will not be obligated to refund the money to you.

There are hackers, internet fishers, or just irresponsible merchants who take advantage of this loophole in the PayPal system. If you end up purchasing the item using PayPal, they can easily take your money and not provide you with anything you purchased. Or, they may provide you with a low quality service. PayPal will not be obligated to refund you, according to their policies and regulations regarding intangible items. Here are some ways you can avoid the issue of internet theft:

  • When making online purchases using PayPal, take their policy on electronic or intangible items into consideration.
  • Make sure you know your merchant well and make sure that they are reputable.
  • Use your credit card instead of using PayPal to make the above mentioned purchases (unless PayPal policy changes). That way you will be able to get a refund in case something goes wrong
