While people get themselves insured under various health plans, they tend to ignore the importance of accidental insurance. Moreover, a majority of people are unaware of the fact that most health insurance plans are different from the accident medical plans. While health insurance plans cover the costs of expenses in the treatment of health issues accidental plans provide assistance in case of expenses incurred on the treatment of injuries sustained during an accident.

Accidents can happen anywhere, in the marketplace, while at work or even at home. And in case some serious injuries are sustained by the people involved in the accident, it can put the in a very tough financial position unless they are covered by an accident medical plan. Although these plans do not pay upfront for the treatment of various injuries, the assurance that the expenses will be covered can also take off a great burden from the mind of the person involved in the accident.

Most accident medical plans are much cheaper than other general health insurance plans. In addition, the increasing competition in this field has made many insurance companies come out with various new plans that offer great benefits at a very affordable price. Most accident medical plans also compensate the insurer in case of organ loss like hands, eyes and legs as well as death in air, rail and car accident. The amount that can be paid to an insurer involved in an accident can vary anywhere between $25,000 to $1,00,000.

However, to prevent the misuse of accident medical plans, insurance companies generally reuse to pay any compensation in case of accidents due to persistent drunken driving or involvement in risky sports activities. It is also due to this reason, that the amount is paid only after the bills and vouchers for the medical expenses incurred are submitted by the insurer.
