And the people who truly profit from the stock market are the ones who bought this stock at the tiny price and watched it skyrocket.

A value bet is the same thing. It's a bet on an event in which the odds are against you (therefore there's that chance of winning a larger amount) however, you know that those odds are slightly incorrect.

We say "slightly" because many bookmakers usually set their prices within a certain range of each other. After all, any bookmaker that is WAY off will go out of business fast: they'll either make odds that are so favourable, they are overwhelmed with bettors and then with paying out or they'll make odds that are so unattractive that they'll hear crickets chirping because of the silence.
