Knowing the right type of gutter cleaning equipment to use depends a lot on which method of gutter cleaning you are using to clean out your gutters. One tool or method may be faster for you depending on how much build up you have in your gutters or how convenient it is for you. For all gutters, the basic equipment includes gloves, a 10 to 32 foot ladder and a bucket. Below are the four different methods people use to clean out their gutters.

The first method is to use a leaf blower to blow build up out of the gutters. If your roof is not to steep this can easily be done from on top of the roof. This is quick and works extremely well for dry gutters. The only downside to this method is that it can take a long time to clean up the mess below. A gas powered blower will typically give you more power then an electric one and be a little bit faster.

The second way to clean your gutter is to clean them out with a wet dry vac. The nice part is all the mess from the gutters is contained with in the unit. The down side is that the Vac is heavy and if you have a lot of gutter build up, you may have to empty it quite frequently.  Some people argue that this method isn't heavy at all so you may have a different experience.  For instance, leaves are a lot lighter then pine needles, so if you have a lot of leaves, this could be a great way to clean out your gutters.

The 3rd method is actually the preferred method I started using, after cleaning 100s of gutter. It is to use a gutter cleaning rake in conjunction with a bucket and ladder. It is generally safer to work from a ladder then from a roof. Also the rake allows you five extra feet of extension on either side of the ladder. This allows you to do the job 2X's faster. Here is another tip on making a great gutter cleaning tool: cut a milk carton into a scooper with a handle and use this to scoop a lot of debris out of the gutter. Please use whichever of these 3 methods works best for you!
