What Features Your Refrigerator Should Have

The refrigerator has got to be one of the most important appliances you have in your house. It keeps your drinks cold and especially preserves your food with its cool temperature. So a cool temperature is the basic feature your refrigerator should have, right? Uh, well, yes but all refrigerators should be cool or else your food will be spoiled and will be bad for you to eat.

So anyway, a feature is a component (which, more often than not, are new innovations) added to something, for example a refrigerator, advertised to make that something better. Features make something even more useful and in many cases, attractive to its target consumers. And the question is, what features should your refrigerator have?

Frost-free function

Lately, this is becoming one of the most important factor you need to consider before buying a refrigerator. Gone are days when you need to open your refrigerator throughout the night to defrost. The process is tedious and time-consuming from the evening before where you put all of your food items outside the refrigerator until the morning when you collect all the melted ice (water in short) and clean the fridge, making it ready to function again.

Now most refrigerator models come with the frost-free feature or the auto-defrost function. With this new innovation, you no longer need to defrost because no frost or ice develops inside the refrigerator and the freezer. The fridge defrosts itself, no effort needed on your part. This is because such refrigerator models come off with heating coils which melt the ice every now and then, therefore eliminating the need for melting the ice manually.

Compartments

Compartments are very important in a refrigerator. You cannot expect to put all kinds of your food items together as doing this may cause the food to turn bad. This is especially true for people who are in a habit of putting non-food items inside their fridge. Yes, some people put lipstick and makeup inside the fridge to lengthen their shelf life.

Because it is important, you have to choose a refrigerator with good and many compartments. First you have to look at the durability. Can those door shelves hold your milk bottles without breaking (or without breaking the bottles themselves)? Your best bet is to look for shelves and compartments made of tempered glass. They also prevent spilled liquid from spreading to the other areas of the fridge.

The compartments especially the closed ones have to be transparent. It will save you time and effort not to mention electricity if you immediately know which compartment holds the chocolate bar you have been craving for since last night. They also have to be removable not only for you to have better access to the food but for the compartments to be thoroughly cleaned as well.

Freezer

Of course you have to have a freezer. Where else would you put your ice in? Not only that, meat and fish as well as other frozen goods such as ice cream need to be placed inside a freezer because the overall temperature in the refrigerator body is not enough to keep those foods frozen.

Meat and fish which are not frozen enough are much more susceptible to spoilage even if they are placed inside the refrigerator. Your freezer should also contain compartments and shelves to separate meat and fish from your ice cream and the drinks you are chilling. (Do not put glass bottles filled with liquid inside the freezer for a long time). Most refrigerator models also come with built in ice trays. You can opt for something like that.

Water dispenser

A water dispenser is very important for frequent drinkers and for people who just want to complete their eight glass a day quota. In most refrigerators, the water dispenser is located at the main door at the opposite side of the handle. A water dispenser is a good feature to have because it minimizes the number of times you have to leave the refrigerator door open.

It also saves you time because you only have to wait for your cup to be filled unlike when you have to pull out a bottle of water from inside the fridge and pour it on your cup and then return it again inside. Most water dispensers also come with water filter which assures you that the water you're drinking is clean. An ice dispenser is also interesting but quite impractical if you already have a freezer with a built in ice tray.
