Does being a friend to someone mean you have to die for them? Does it mean you have to do whatever they want you to do? How about loaning them money? I would say no to all of the above questions. I think a friend is someone who is in your life regardless if you are flush with cash or you are broke.
A friend is someone who is not only there to help you in your time of need but also when you just want to do stuff. A friend is someone who comes over to your house to just hang out with you and do stuff with you. A friend is not someone who comes over and eats your food, floods your toilet, drives your car and uses up all of your gas. A friend is not a person who borrows money from you all of the time since you are NOT a bank.
A friend does not even ask you for any money at all. There finances are their business and yours are your business. Friends do not stick there nose where it does not belong. A friend remembers your birthday and maybe buys you a gift or takes you out for dinner.
A friend is there throughout your life regardless of where you move or what you do. Your friend is only a phone call or an email away. A friend does not forget about you the moment you move and never forgets to return your calls once you are out of the picture.
To me, the above is what it means to be someone's friend.
