If your cat has a cat urination problem they are not doing it deliberately or to spite you. Cats that have been neutered or never wandered outdoors may even mark outside the litter box. A cat that has never been neutered and has a cat urination problem should be neutered because while they are in heat they will without a doubt perform urine marking.
There are several causes for a cat not using his litter box.
1) Is the litter box dirty? While one cat may use a box cleaned every other day, another cat will not.
2) If a cat doesn't feel safe in his environment or feels threatened he may mark his territory and relieve his worry by urine marking. Urine odors are specific to each individual cat and his territory.
3) There might be a conflict between the cats. If you have more than one cat they not want to use the same box. Sometimes one cat will wait to attack the other when it begins to use the litter box. This creates worry and apprehension which leads to cat urinating problems.
Whatever you do not yell or frighten the cat especially around his litter box. He will develop a negative attitude towards the litter box and most likely the cat urination problem will become worse.
If at all possible supply one litter box per cat in your home. Try different locations and see which area he likes best. If a cat is stressed or bothered by another cat, dog or child they need an alternate place to use a litter box.
Have your cat checked by a veterinarian every year so that health problems can be found before they become a bigger problem. Cat urinating problems could be from a medical cause, such as a bladder stones or urinary tract infection. You can also try supplements especially formulated to help strengthen and balance they urinary tract Above all, don't expect this behavior to change overnight, have patience and try different strategies to help your cat feel healthy and peaceful in his home.
