What Are You Going to Do to Reverse Type 2 Diabetes?

Expert Author Beverleigh H Piepers

It is true Type 2 diabetes can seem bewildering and foreign to you, especially at first. But your health is one of the most important parts of your life. Unfortunately other factors such as family and work commitments seem to take higher priority. Why not stop and consider how you can work as a partner with your doctor and your medical team to apply the best strategies of diet, exercise and medications so that you achieve the best health possible?

Doctors and other medical personnel cannot help you if you're not prepared to help yourself. Of course, you may not have all the answers, but it's up to you to find out what to do to become healthy.

Type 2 diabetes is invisible, it's a chronic disease that does not go away. It cannot be cured but it definitely can be managed, or reversed. The genetics of course remain, but the effects of it can be reversed. That's the reason you need to become involved in the self-management of Type 2 diabetes, self management means you choose to participate in your medical care and in the management of your condition.

The first thing you have done to help yourself is to see a doctor and be diagnosed. Now this is the stepping stone to learning all you can about Type 2 and it's effects. The management of Type 2 may seem complicated at first, but really it's not. There are many things you can do to take control: change you diet, increase your physical activity, lose weight and take your medications.

What action will you take to turn your Type 2 diabetes around?

You choose what you are going to eat and drink. You decide how often you are going to exercise. You work out if you really need medication or if you can cope without these medications. The key to it all is you! It's the daily choices you make which determine how healthy you will be... whether or not you will reverse Type 2 diabetes and have lower blood sugar levels.

Burying your head in the sand and ignoring Type 2 diabetes is one of the worst actions you can take... or not take! Type 2 diabetes will not just miraculously disappear, not without you taking action. Type 2 diabetes can be reversed... but you need to get in there and decide to make the effort to lose weight. And once you lose weight you will have lower blood sugar levels. Because you carry the gene for Type 2 diabetes does not mean it needs to be 'given life'. Losing weight will not happen overnight, but it will happen. It took approximately 8 to 12 years to develop this condition, so it will take consistent effort to reverse Type 2 diabetes, but it can be done and improvements in lower blood sugar levels can be seen reasonably fast.

Why not stop taking the easy way out... you have choices to make regarding how much you wish to participate in your diabetes care or self management. It has been proven time after time diabetics who kept their blood sugar levels as near as possible to normal... significantly reduced their risk of diabetic complications.
