Weight Loss With Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Most people have an intake of too much omega-6 fatty acids from cooking with vegetable oils or from processed foods that are made with vegetable oils. However, as expected, most people do not have sufficient intake of omega-3 fats.

Dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids include fish oil and certain plant/nut oils. Fish oil contains both docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), while some nuts (English walnuts) and vegetable oils (canola, soybean, flax seed/linseed, olive) contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).

Both of the mentioned fats are healthy, but too much of the omega-6 and not enough of the omega-3 can throw off the balance in your body and cause inflammatory molecules to start to form. If that should happen, it could raise the risk of diseases of aging and should also keep you from losing weight.

Add a good omega-3 and omega-6 supplement to your regular diet, this will keep the preferred balance of omega-3 and omega-6, which will help improve your metabolism, lower your blood pressure, help skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, can help reduce menstrual cramps, lower the risk of a heart attack, stroke and some cancers.

Studies from the Environmental Defense group have determined that two-thirds of surveyed companies follow very strict procedures involving environmental contaminants in their fish oil supplements. Studies have also shown that the majority of fish oil supplements are free of any type of contaminants in fish, including mercury.

Fish oil supplements are sold in health food stores, vitamin stores, grocery stores, department stores, the list goes on and on! You can pick up your Omega-3 and Omega-6 supplements easily while doing your grocery shopping.

Lastly, new studies have shown 1,000 milligrams of the following: alphalinolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) combined, is what you should look for. But, always remember, talk to your doctor before you take any supplements, especially if you are taking any other medication.
