Weight Loss After Giving Birth

Expert Author Vanessa Ann Lea

Doctors say it's healthy for the average woman to gain 25 to 30 pounds while pregnant, but generally, no more than that. The weight you gain is specifically for baby and not a free ticket to eat whatever you want. Most women that gain 50 to 100 pounds through their pregnancy are those that will have the most difficult time taking those pounds off after giving birth. By immediately adopting a new eating plan you could easily get those pounds off quickly. If you are breast feeding, it would be a good idea to consult a nutritionist or your doctor for any special instructions. Below I have a list of foods that should be eaten daily for good health and a slimmer you after baby.

1. Fruits:

Eating fruit is an excellent source of vitamins, water, and fiber. Eating fresh fruit several times a day will fill you up and help you transition into the next meal. Fruit is low in sodium and high in all the right nutrients to get your body in fat fighting mode. The best fruit to eat is fresh organic that you can get at your regular grocery store or other natural food stores. Organic is preferred because grocers fruit has been tainted with pesticides that will not only affect your health but will hinder your weight loss efforts.

2. Vegetables:

Vegetables are also a great source of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that aid in the breakdown and digestion of all your food. Its low fat, rich in flavor and can and should be eaten raw and steamed. The best vegetables are always going to be fresh and organic as you will not ingest any pesticides or foreign matter with organically grown.

3. Breastfeeding:

If you breastfeed baby, this in and of itself will cause weight loss because when the baby nurses, it causes your uterus to contract which aides in your body to return to its pre-pregnancy state quicker. Plus, it's better for baby as well.

4. Water:

Yes, drinking water, as you've heard before, will speed up your progress tremendously by flushing the system, hydrate your tissues and cells, and keep you feeling fuller. Sometimes an 8 ounce glass of water is all you need to squelch what you might determine as hunger but in actuality, you were dehydrated. People tend to reach for food first when water is what your body is craving.

5. Exercise:

After you're cleared from your doctor, light exercise is all you need to get you back to pre-baby weight. Daily strolls with the baby are a great form of exercise and gets you out of the house and feeling energized. Thirty minutes a day and no need for the gym.
